In search of a good cup of coffee

Just a quick post here to relay a good story. You would think it an easy task to find a good cup of coffee in the middle of Colombia’s central coffee zone. But no, not easy. As mentioned previously, the coffee industry here is intended for the export market, and most Colombians aren’t huge coffee buffs. The result is that coffee on the street, and most establishments, is lacking.

So Amy eludes to this conundrum on Facebook this morning. As luck would have it, and unbeknownst to us, a Nelson friend of ours, Greg Munby, spent 2 years teaching here in Pereira (where we are staying at the moment) some time ago. Via the magic of Facebook, Greg informed of us where to get the best coffee in town: El Templo Del Cafe in el centro. A quick google search and we were charting a course to El Templo within minutes. A brief stroll through the streets of Pereira found us sitting in El Templo and indeed, enjoying a fine cup of Colombian espresso topped up with foamed milk, just the way we like it. It was a fine brew. The best so far!

 Thanks Mumbai!

  3. Dear Rob, lovely posts, thanks so much for taking the time to blog and for the lovely photos. It's a great way to stay connected back home, and you are also sounding like you are immersing yourself in the days over there. I'm glad you made it up to Salento (up being the operative word), and i'm glad you found a great cup of coffee. Safe travels

    1. Hey Colleen, good to hear from you. Safe is important. So far so good. Despite the reputation that Columbia has, it seems as safe as anywhere else we've been. Hopefully it will stay that way! Rob.

  5. Hey, my middle name is Pereira! Must be a great place. I'd fit in there about as well as I do here in Nelson. If you come across a town called "Rocha" let me know and I'll be sure to visit it some day. Happy travels!
